The Braves have decided not to tender a 2012 contract to 31-year old righty swinging infielder Brooks Conrad. Conrad played in 92 games for the Braves last year and he was 23 of 103 (.223 avg, .713 OPS) with 11 runs scored, 4 homers, 13 RBIs and 2 stolen base. He played in 225 games in his first three years with the Braves and he was 73 for 313 (.233 avg, .754 OPS) with 49 runs scored, 14 homers, 54 RBIs and 7 stolen bases. The Braves have signed a lot of infielders to minor league deals, so that is likely why Conrad will be looking for a new team in 2012.

The Atlanta Braves non tender Peter Moylan

The Braves have decided not to tender a contract to 32-year old righty reliever Peter Moylan for the 2012 season, making him a free agent. Moylan pitched in 13 games (0 starts) for the Braves last year and he was 2-1 with a 3.24 ERA and a 1.80 WHIP. He pitched in 287 games (0 starts) in his six years with the Braves and he is 19-9 with 3 saves, a 2.60 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP. Moylan underwent rotator cuff surgery last October, so he’s not likely to be ready for the start of the 2012 season. That played a huge part in the decision to let Moylan go, because he’s a good relief pitcher when healthy.

UPDATE: (1/24/2012) - The Braves have re-signed Peter Moylan to a minor league deal.

The Atlanta Braves picked Robert Fish in the Rule 5 Draft

The Braves have selected 23-year old lefty reliever Robert Fish from the Los Angeles Angels in the Rule 5 Draft. Fish pitched in 26 games (0 starts) in Rookie+AA-ball last year and he was 1-0 with 2 saves, a 2.97 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP. He has now pitched in 152 games (58 starts) in his first six years in the minors and he is 21-20 with 4 saves, a 4.87 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP. Fish has whiffed 415 batters in his first 389 innings in the minors, so he has a live arm, but he has also walked 189 batters. It never hurts to take a flier on a lefty with an arm like Fish has.
