Mike Minor has been a mess this year for the Atlanta Braves

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Pitching BP by chinmusic on Friday 15 June 2012 at 9:27 am

24-year old lefty starting pitcher Mike Minor has been a mess for the Braves so far this year. He has pitched in 12 games (all starts) for the Braves so far this year and he is 3-4 with a 6.01 ERA and a 1.42 WHIP. He has already given up 14 homers in only 70 1/3 innings this year as he is getting hit very hard. He started 5 games in May in which he was 0-2 with a 9.95 ERA and a 1.90 WHIP! But, he has rebounded so far in June. He has started 2 games so far in June and he is 1-0 with a 1.46 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP, so maybe he’s finally starting to figure things out in the majors.

The Atlanta Braves send Jair Jurrjens to AAA

Blogged under Arrivals & Departures, Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Pitching BP by chinmusic on Tuesday 24 April 2012 at 9:33 am

The Braves have sent 26-year old righty starting pitcher Jair Jurrjens to AAA-ball. He has pitched in 4 games (all starts) for the Braves so far this year and he is 0-2 with a 9.37 ERA and a 2.45 WHIP. Jurrjens has given up 30 hits (5 homers) and he has walked 10 batters in only 16 1/3 innings so far this year. Jurrjens deserved this demotion as he has been awful so far this year for the Braves. He will likely be replaced in the rotation by Tim Hudson this weekend. The Braves are not giving up on Jurrjens though, as they will likely call him back up when he gets back into a good groove in AAA. Jurrjens has pitched in 112 games (all starts) in his first five years with the Braves and he is 47-34 with a 3.48 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP.

The Atlanta Braves need Derek Lowe to pick up the pace

The Atlanta Braves need 36-year old righty starting pitcher Derek Lowe to finish this season strongly. He has pitched in 28 games (all starts) for the Braves this year and he is 8-12 with a 4.63 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP. Lowe is in the 3rd year of a 4 year, $60 million dollar deal for the Braves. He has pitched in 95 games (all starts) in his first three years for the Braves and he is 39-34 with a 4.42 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP. Lowe has been dependable in his first three years as he always takes the ball when it’s his turn to pitch. But, the Braves need him to start getting better results.

Jesse Chavez is throwing batting practice so far this season

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Pitching BP by chinmusic on Saturday 12 June 2010 at 12:01 pm

26-year old righty reliever Jesse Chavez might be running out of time in Atlanta based on his pitching so far this year. He has pitched in 18 games (0 starts) for the Braves this year and he is 0-1 with a 7.33 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP. He has given up a stunning 5 homers in only 23 1/3 innings so far this season for the Braves. With Jair Jurrjens getting close to returning to the Braves Chavez needs to pick up the pace or he is going to be pitching in AAA soon.

The Atlanta Braves have a couple of pitchers that need to get it together

Closer Bob Wickman and #4 starter Kyle Davies have both been awful so far this season. Wickman is 1-2 with 16 saves, a 4.80 ERA and a 1.63 WHIP so far this season. The Braves need Wickman to pitch better in the 2nd half of the season or they need to consider pulling him from the closers job and give it to Rafael Soriano. Kyle Davies has been pretty awful again this season. He is 4-7 with a 5.55 ERA and a 1.52 WHIP so far this season. The Braves would replace him if they had anyone that they thought could do a better job.

The Atlanta Braves place Lance Cormier on the DL

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Injuries, Pitching BP by chinmusic on Sunday 10 June 2007 at 11:22 am

The Braves have placed Lance Cormier on the 15-day disabled list with a tired arm. I surprised it wasn’t whiplash with all of the homers he has allowed. In 2 starts this season, Cormier is 0-2 with a 15.26 ERA and a 2.74 WHIP! In 7.2 innings this season, Cormier has allowed 14 hits, 7 HOMERS, walked 7 batters and whiffed 4 batters. The Braves have recalled Buddy Carlyle from the minors to get his big chance. He will be the #5 starter on the Braves for as long as he can pitch well. In 3 games (2 starts), Carlyle is 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP. Carlyle has thrown 12 innings and he has allowed 8 hits, walked 5 batters and whiffed 9.Â

Chad Paronto is pitching awful for the Braves this season

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Pitching BP by chinmusic on Friday 25 May 2007 at 5:13 pm

The Braves were hoping that Chad Paronto would build upon the success he had last season, but so far this season he has been terrible. In 16 games this season, Paronto is 2-1 with 1 save, a 8.25 ERA and a 2.42 WHIP so far. In 12 innnings, he has allowed 19 hits and walked 10 batters! Paronto could find himself back in AAA ball unless he starts to pitch better soon.

Steve Colyer has been awful since the Atlanta Braves have called him up

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Pitching BP by chinmusic on Monday 7 May 2007 at 10:08 pm

Steve Colyer is darn lucky that he throws with his left arm because that’s the only reason that he keeps getting chances in the majors. He has pitched in 7 games this season for the Braves and he’s 0-1 with a 4.91 ERA and a 3.55 WHIP! In 3.2 innings with the Braves, Colyer has allowed 9 hits, a homer and he’s walked 4 batters. Colyer also has whiffed 4 batters which shows that he has pretty decent stuff, but, he is not that good of a pitcher.

The Atlanta Braves have a few pitchers that seem like they are throwing BP

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Pitching BP by chinmusic on Wednesday 11 April 2007 at 8:02 pm

Mark Redman, Macay McBride and Tyler Yates have all been pitching badly so far this season. The Braves really need Mark Redman to pitch good with the news that Mike Hampton will miss the entire 2007 season. Redman threw 5.2 innings in his first start of the season and he gave up 9 hits and 5 earned runs. That means he has a 7.94 ERA and a 1.76 WHIP after 1 start and the Braves hope he will get better and soon! Lefty reliever Macay McBride also has gotten off to a rough start as he has given up 3 hits and walked 6 batters in only 2 innings. The Braves need McBride to pitch well as their second lefty in the bullpen. Tyler Yates has also got lit up so far this season as he has thrown 1.2 innings and has given up 4 hits, walked 2 batters and allowed 2 earned runs.
